About FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Its primary function is to protect and promote public health by regulating and supervising food safety. The FSSAI headquarters are located in New Delhi, with 6 regional offices, 14 referral laboratories, 72 State/UT laboratories, and 112 NABL accredited laboratories.


Course Overview

Looking at the increasing demand for food testing personnel and to encourage employment for fresh postgraduates in the Food Industry and Food testing laboratories, the Board conducts the Junior Analyst Exam (JAE). Candidates must qualify both the theory and practical papers of the JAE. FSSAI conducts the theory exam followed by the practical exam in July and September, respectively.

A food analyst must have knowledge of chemical testing or analytical procedures, quantitative research methods, biological research techniques, quality assurance techniques, and government regulations. This knowledge is crucial for both the Food Analyst Entrance (FAE) and Junior Analyst Exam (JAE). Candidates who have cleared the FSSAI exam have a significant advantage in the job market.

Dr Paushali Pal - Researcher/ Microbiologist/ Food Technologist with 19+ Years of Experience

Dr. Paushali Pal, with 19 years of experience in Life Sciences, specializing in Microbiology, Food Technology, and Biotechnology, is introduced as an Industry Professional, Researcher, and Academician.

Her patent, entitled "Unique Preparation of Cookies from Jackfruit Flour and Coconut Flour," was published in 2023.

Her educational background includes an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Microbiology from Bangalore University, both completed with first-class honours, followed by a PhD in Microbiology from Techno India University, where research on Biofertilizers with a focus on Indole Acetic Acid was conducted. Her professional journey began as a Quality Control Executive at the Flight Kitchen in Chennai for Air India and Air France, where microbial analysis of foods and other HACCP parameters were performed.

Subsequently, she worked at Amul Ice-creams' production unit in West Bengal. Research in Nanotechnology was carried out at the Saha Institute Of Nuclear Physics in West Bengal, with further research experience gained at Genobiotek and Techno India University. Teaching roles have been undertaken at Panskura Banamali College and Techno India University, where Environmental Engineering knowledge was shared with Engineering students, as an Assistant Professor in the Food Technology Department at Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and as a PGT Biology Teacher at institutions like DAV, HI-Q International Academy in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and B.D. Academy in Bhagalpur, Bihar, extensive teaching experience has been accumulated. 

Roles as a Research Article Reviewer, Question Paper Setter, and Scrutinizer have also been held. Continuous professional development was ensured through ATAL and NPTEL courses from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras. Eligibility

  • Educational Background Required To Take Up FSSAI Exam & this course: The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s or Doctorate degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry or Microbiology or Dairy Chemistry or Agriculture Science or Animal Science or Fisheries Science or Biotechnology or Food Safety or Food Technology, Food and Nutrition or Dairy Technology or Oil Technology or Veterinary Sciences from a university established in India by law or is an associate of the Institution of Chemists (India) by examination in the section of Food Analysts conducted by the Institution of Chemists (India)
  • There is no age limit for appearing in JAE.
